Tally to Busy migration — done without losing a single balance

The fear is always the same: lost balances, broken stock valuation, a billing counter that stops. Here is exactly how we migrate Tally data into Busy, what we verify before you go live, and how long each stage takes.

Accountant migrating data from Tally to Busy Software
Quick answer

Can Tally data be migrated to Busy Software?

Yes. Ledgers, groups, stock items, parties, opening balances and historical vouchers can be migrated from Tally into Busy. Mark Software runs the migration as part of implementation: we import the data, reconcile the trial balance and stock valuation against your Tally figures, retain your voucher numbering, configure GST and e-invoicing, train your staff and run one parallel cycle before you retire Tally. A single-location business is typically live in 24 to 48 hours.

Migration is a controlled process, not a data dump. The risk is never the import itself — it is the two or three balances that quietly change, and nobody notices until the auditor does.

We work backwards from verification: decide what must reconcile exactly, migrate, prove it reconciles, then go live. Everything below is the standard plan we follow for a trading, distribution or manufacturing business moving off Tally.

Verified before go-live
Trial balance, party outstandings, stock valuation, GST position and bank balances
Parallel run
One billing cycle in both systems so nothing depends on trust alone
Training
Role-based sessions for owners, accountants and billing staff in Marathi, Hindi or English

What moves from Tally to Busy

Almost everything you rely on daily, with the structure adjusted to how Busy organises masters.

  • Ledger accounts and groups, with your existing naming preserved
  • Stock items, units, alternate units, categories, godowns and batches
  • Customers, suppliers, GSTINs, addresses, credit limits and terms
  • Opening balances for parties, ledgers and stock, with valuation method
  • Historical vouchers for the period you want carried forward
  • Price lists, discount structures and standard narrations

What we verify before go-live

This is the part that protects you. Nothing goes live until these match your Tally reports to the rupee.

  • Trial balance as on the cut-off date
  • Party-wise outstanding — receivables and payables, with ageing
  • Stock valuation, item-wise and godown-wise
  • GST liability and input credit position for the last filed period
  • Bank balances against reconciled statements

The five-stage migration plan

Each stage has an owner and a sign-off, so you always know where the project stands.

  • Stage 1 — Assessment: review your Tally company, volumes, customisations and reporting needs; agree the cut-off date
  • Stage 2 — Configuration: install Busy or provision Busy on Cloud, set the right edition, configure GST, series, print formats and user rights
  • Stage 3 — Migration: import masters, opening balances and selected history
  • Stage 4 — Verification: reconcile trial balance, outstandings, stock valuation and GST position against Tally, and fix differences before anyone bills
  • Stage 5 — Parallel run and go-live: bill in both systems for a short cycle, train staff, then switch

How long it takes

A single-location trading business with clean Tally data is usually live within 24 to 48 hours of licence issue. Multi-godown distributors with several years of history and heavy customisation typically take three to seven working days, most of which is verification rather than import.

Manufacturing units adding BOM, job work and costing structures should plan one to two weeks, because those masters are being designed rather than copied.

Will my accountant have to relearn everything?

No. Busy is keyboard-driven and menu-based like Tally, so accountants are usually productive within a day or two. Billing operators pick up the sales entry screen in a single session.

Training is role-based and delivered in Marathi, Hindi or English: owners get reports and controls, accountants get GST and reconciliation, billing staff get speed.

Common migration mistakes we avoid

Most migration horror stories come from the same handful of shortcuts.

  • Migrating mid-month instead of at a clean cut-off, so GST periods split awkwardly
  • Importing stock without confirming the valuation method, which shifts closing value
  • Skipping the parallel run and discovering print-format or series problems on day one
  • Leaving duplicate parties from years of loose naming in Tally — we de-duplicate first
  • Not testing e-invoice and e-way bill on the live GSTIN before the first despatch

What it costs

Migration is quoted with the licence, in writing: edition and user count, add-ons, cloud hosting if required, migration effort, training days and total price including GST. There are no verbal quotes and no surprise charges after go-live.

Busy licences start at ₹11,000 per user for Basic and ₹16,500 for Standard, plus GST, with yearly plans from ₹5,000.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my old Tally data?+

No. Your Tally company remains untouched — we work on a copy. You keep Tally as an archive for as long as you want, and we never delete or modify the source data.

Can historical vouchers be migrated, not just opening balances?+

Yes. We usually migrate one to three years of vouchers so comparative reports work inside Busy, and carry the rest as opening balances.

How do you prove the migration is correct?+

By reconciliation: trial balance, party-wise outstanding with ageing, item-wise and godown-wise stock valuation, GST liability and input credit, and bank balances all matched against your Tally reports before go-live.

Can we keep our existing invoice numbering?+

Yes. Voucher series and numbering are configured to continue exactly as they are, which keeps your GST filings and audit trail consistent.

What happens if something is wrong after go-live?+

You are supported by phone, remote session and on-site visits where required. Most post-go-live issues — a print format, a report column, a rounding rule — are settled the same day.

Do you migrate from TallyPrime as well as older Tally versions?+

Yes, including Tally.ERP 9 and TallyPrime. Older or corrupted data files are assessed first so we can tell you honestly what is recoverable.

Is there any downtime for billing?+

No. The parallel run means billing continues in Tally until the day you choose to switch.
